Macro-mineral, fourth component in the body,
after water, proteins and fats. Total corporal
calcium, it approximates 1150 grams and is
concentrated in 90% of bones and teeth. It is
used virtually by all the cells in the body. Not
only it helps maintain bones and teeth healthy
and strong, it also helps in the normal
maintenance of the circulatory, nervous and
muscular systems. When a woman does not obtain
sufficient calcium from her diet, the body
withdraws calcium from the bones to maintain a
stable level in the blood. With time, this loss
can debilitate the bones significantly and
result in osteoporosis.
The
foods with highest calcium content are lacteous
products, dry fruits, sardines and anchovies;
with lesser content, legumes, dark green
vegetables (spinach, Swiss Chard, broccoli).
Properties:
-
Essential in the
preservation of the skeleton and teeth, its
deficiency is the principal cause of
osteoporosis. This disease is characterized
by fragility of the bones produced by a
lessening of its mineral contents, which
diminishes their density.
-
Calcium takes place in
blood coagulation, in the correct
permeability of the membranes and also it
has an important role as nervous and
neuromuscular regulator, modulating muscular
contraction (included cardiac frequency),
absorption and secretion by the intestines
and hormone liberation.
-
Vitamin B6 (Vitamina B6):
Hydrosoluble vitamin, that belongs to the
Vitamin B complex, also known as pyridoxine. It
has a vital function in the body: to synthesize
carbohydrates, proteins, fats and the formation
of red cells and hormones. In the protein
synthesis, it synthesizes amino acids and
participates in the production of antibodies.
Helps in maintaining equilibrium of sodium and
potassium in the body. It is found in egg yolks,
meats, liver, kidney, fish, lacteous products,
whole grains, beans, legumes and dry fruits. Its
deficiency can be reflected in the presence of
anemia, fatigue, depression, nervous
dysfunctions, vertigo, conjunctivitis, nausea
and vomit.
