I. GENERAL DESCRIPTION.-

This compound product is made from the following plants:

Valeriana (Valeriana Officinalis L.)

Azahar Flowers (Citrus Aurantium)

Cedron (Lippia Citriodora)

Toronjil (Melisa Officinalis L.)

Pimpinela (Pimpinela Anisum)

 

    II. DESCRIPTION OF THE PLANTS.- 

  • Valeriana (Valeriana Officinalis L.): It is found in woods, river banks, and meadows. Perennial, grows to 2 meters high. Tall stalks, robust, compound leaves, white or pink flowers.

 

 

Properties:

Traditionally, its flowers and leaves are used in infusion as a mild sedative and an anti-anxiety drink, to calm nerves, palpitations, headaches from nervous attacks, etc.

Also used to calm stomach upsets, stomach aches, gastrointestinal spasms; anti-flatulence; against insomnia, stress, fatigue and anxiety.

 

  • Azahar Flowers - Seville Orange flowers(Citrus Aurantium): Perennial tree of the rutacea family, grows to between 3 and 5 meters tall, round, frondose, compact; trunks and branches thorny, elliptic leaves and white, five-petal flowers full of perfume. Flowers March to April. Its fruit is round, 7-8 cm in diameter, wrinkly orange surface, acid pulp.

 

  

Properties:

Used traditionally as anti-spasmodic, sedative and as a mild somniferous drink.

Also used for its anti-infection properties; and as a premenstrual pain reliever.

Used in cases of insomnia, nervous excitement, anxiety, stress, digestive spasms, anorexia, nervous dyspepsia, nervous cough, varicose veins and edemas.

 

 

  • Cedron - Lemon Verbena (Lippia Citriodora): Also known in Peru as Hierba Luisa, it is a shrub original from South America. It has a multi-angled stalk, multiple branches and grows to 2 meters tall. Its leaves are green and have an intense lemony scent.

 

  

Properties:

Traditionally used against indigestion, mild sedative against palpitations, nervous attacks, insomnia.

Relieves stress-induced stomach and intestinal upsets and fortifies the organism.

Used as anti-spasmodic, relieves vomiting, migraines and nervous related tooth or ear aches.

 

  • Toronjil - Lemon Balm (Melissa Officinalis L.): Perennial plant that reaches to only 80 cm. Stalks are tall, erect, boxy, woodsy. Its leaves are oval, toothy along the edges, and with a strong lemony scent. Its flowers are white or pink and small, reaching only to 1.2 cm, bunched up to 10 per group.

   

Properties:

Traditionally used as a mild sedative, against, stress, anxiety, nervous attacks, palpitations, stress-induced stomach upsets (anti-inflammatory of the intestines, indigestions).

Used as anti-spasmodic, anti-depressant, tonic, choleretic (stimulates bilious secretion).

  

  • Pimpinella – Anise (Pimpinela anisum): Also known as Anis Verde, this annual herbaceous plant reaches up to 60 cm (2 ft) in height. It has a round and grooved stalk. Its root is spindle-shaped. The leaves are petiolate (have leaf-stalks),  round, serrated and truncated at the base. The flowers are small and white; grow in a round-top clusters (7 to 14 pedicels), with the cluster pedicels stemming from common points. The seeds have grooves and have a characteristic scent.

     

        

Properties:

  • Used for its carminative action (helps expel intestinal gas); as a tonic for the digestive system.

  • Has diuretic, astringent and homeostatic properties.

  • Used in the treatment of gastritis and acute gastroenteritis, including dysentery.

  • Used in the treatment of enterocolitis of the mucus membranes (a serious type of diarrhea) in lactating babies.

  • Used as an expectorant for the respiratory system.

  • Anti-spasmodic.
